Construction at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute is now underway and is expected to be complete in the fall of 2019.
Investing in hospital infrastructure is part of the government’s patient-centred approach to health care. It is also part of the Ontario government's four-part economic plan to build Ontario up by investing in people's talent and skills, building new public infrastructure like hospitals and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives, and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.
“The expansion and redevelopment of the University of Ottawa’s Heart Institute is an example of how our government is working to improve patient outcomes and ensuring they can access the services they need close to home.”
— John Fraser, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care
“Our government is committed to connecting Ontarians with state-of-the-art health care close to home. The expansion and redevelopment of the University of Ottawa’s Heart Institute will provide the Ottawa community with better access to the specialised cardiac services they need.”
“Investing in vital infrastructure projects, like the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, not only allows Ontario to continue paving the way for future generations, but also creates hundreds of jobs to help stimulate the local Ottawa economy. Infrastructure Ontario is a world leader in procuring and delivering large and complex projects on time and on budget, and I’m pleased that construction can now begin on this important project.”
— Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure
“I am very excited that with today’s ground breaking, the expansion of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute is underway. This investment in high quality health care will ensure expanded cardiac care services are available and delivered to the residents of Ottawa in a new state-of-the-art facility."
— Yasir Naqvi, MPP Ottawa Centre
“Today marks a historic milestone as we begin the construction of the most significant expansion of the Heart Institute since its foundation. Our new facility will not only reinforce our cardiovascular care, research, and training capacities, but it will also ensure that our patients continue to receive world-class care, from an extraordinary team evolving in a state-of-the-art environment. This is our promise.”
— Dr. Thierry Mesana, President and CEO, University of Ottawa Heart Institute
